Our friends at Write to Freedom have organised a series of online talks, Recovery Conversations. The series includes talks and discussions with experts in the three areas that Write to Freedom uses as lenses for their addiction recovery work – Nature Connection, Mindfulness and Creativity. The talks are open to all who are interested in their work, whether you have participated already, are curious, or are simply interested in the topic.
The theme of the next talk will be Creativity with Dartmoor based artist Gavin Blench – The Path of Art as Nourishment for the Soul. The talk will take place on Wednesday 10 February 2021 , 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM GMT. You can register on Eventbrite. The talk is free, but you can leave a voluntary contribution.
Gavin is a practicing artist living in Devon. He has been involved in rites of passage and transformational work for nearly 30 years. After studying sculpture and aboriginal music (involving a year living in Arnhemland as part of the Gumatj clan), he worked with vulnerable young people with challenging behaviour and then went on into teaching, both at the University of Plymouth, Dartington Hall and the Open University. After a diagnosis of primary progressive multiple sclerosis, he decided to pursue his passion for art. He has been a full time, award winning painter since. He is part of the steering group of Arts and Health South West and is the Lived Experience Network champion for the South West. His work is available to view on his Instagram
