An online talk and discussion on Addiction Recovery and Creativity, with Dartmoor artist Gavin Blench.
This is the third Recovery Conversations event, promoted by Write to Freedom. The series includes with online talks and discussions with experts in the three areas that we use as lenses for our addiction recovery work – Nature Connection, Mindfulness and Creativity. These talks are open to all who are interested in our work, whether you have participated already, are curious about what we do, or are simply interested in the topic of today’s talk.
The theme of this talk will be Creativity with Dartmoor based artist Gavin Blench – The Path of Art as Nourishment for the Soul.
Gavin is a practicing artist living in Devon. He has been involved in rites of passage and transformational work for nearly 30 years. After studying sculpture and aboriginal music (involving a year living in Arnhemland as part of the Gumatj clan), he worked with vulnerable young people with challenging behaviour and then went on into teaching, both at the University of Plymouth, Dartington Hall and the Open University. After a diagnosis of primary progressive multiple sclerosis, he decided to pursue his passion for art. He has been a full time, award winning painter since. He is part of the steering group of Arts and Health South West and is the Lived Experience Network champion for the South West. His work is available to view on www.instagram.com/blenchart.
